Here is a very effective script. In coming weeks/months, I will post this script and some other training materials at www.greatcommissionfamily.com. Look for it soon.
Script begin…
Presenter: “Hello NAME. How are you doing? My name is YOUR NAME. I have a real burden to share something with you. [variant depending upon your relationship with the prospect--tell them it's training practice for church folks]. If you were to die today, do you know with absolute certainty that you would go to heaven?”
Prospect: “Yes, I believe I will go to heaven.”
Presenter: “That’s great. You know the Bible says you can in fact know with certainty. It says: ‘I write these things that you may know you have eternal life’ (1 John 5:13). What makes you certain you will go to heaven when you die?”
Prospect: “I’ve been a good person.” [If they say they have put their trust in Christ and repented of their sins—pray for them. If anything else, press on with the script.]
Presenter: “I know you are a good person. I can tell that by just speaking with you. However, have you ever sinned? For example, let’s look at the 10 commandments. Have you ever told a lie?”
Prospect: “Of course I have.”
Presenter: “What does that make you? What do we call people who lie?”
Prospect: “A liar.”
Presenter: “Have you ever stolen anything—I mean anything at all?”
Prospect: “Maybe once or twice.”
Presenter: “What do we call people who steal?”
Prospect: “A thief.”
Presenter: “We only looked at 2 of the 10 commandments, and thus far, by your own admission you confess that you are a liar and a thief. If you were to stand before God in judgment today based on the 10 commandments, would you be found innocent or guilty?”
Prospect: “I guess I would be guilty.”
Presenter: “You’re not alone. I’m in the same boat. In fact, we all are. The Bible says ‘All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ (Romans 3:23) The Bible also says ‘The wages of sin is death.’ And that means hell. However, the verse continues ‘…but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.’” (Romans 6:23)
So picture this. You are standing before the judge and are guilty as charged. You are about to be condemned…but then an innocent man in the back of the room stands up and says ‘NO, let this person go. I will take their punishment on their behalf.’ That is what Jesus, who lived a sinless life, did on the cross for you and me. And it’s a free gift.
The Bible says ‘if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved… [And] whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ (Romans 10:9 and 13)
You’re a ‘whosoever.’ Would you like to receive the free gift of eternal life?”
Prospect: “Yes, I would.”
Presenter: “Making Jesus Lord of your life means turning away from sin, the things that displease God, and doing your best to live in a way that pleases Him. Are ready to make that commitment?”
Prospect: “Yes I am.”
Presenter: “That’s wonderful. First, I want to pray for you. Then I am going to ask you to repeat after me in prayer.
Lord, I pray that you would reveal yourself to NAME and open her heart…and if Cindy has never received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, I pray she will do so right now. NAME, if you would like to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, just repeat after me...”
Presenter//Prospect: “Dear Lord Jesus // I believe you died for my sins // Come into my heart // Forgive me of my sins // fill me with your Holy Spirit // Empower me to live a life free from sin // I thank you that I'm now forgiven // and on my way to Heaven // In Jesus' Name // AMEN.”
Presenter: NAME, I have some good news for you. As a minister of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, I tell you today that all of your sins are forgiven!” ________________________________________________________________________
